Come on CCP, the PC is crying out for a MMOFPS
The only people developing one at the moment are SOE and you know what they're like.
not necessarily.
4players.de has talked to Petursson after the show, asking why there will be no PC-Version. Petursson smiled and stated, that he cannot comment on it right now. The only thing he can say at the moment is that there will be ca console version.

maybe dust is why ambulation has been so slow to see the light of day, maybe the war rooms in ambulation will incorporate dust, imagine being able to view a whole sector of territory in the war room and assign missions to dust players on the console realm to bolster power and whatnot.
the video would indicate that this will in fact be the case.
LOL nice, this would really revolutzionize the whole mmo genre to never seen before levels

Indeed, skip to 3:10 and listen and he clearly states that the console players will directly effect 0.0 sov and the only way to get it in your favor is to pay console players to fight for you. Oh dear...
Ha ha, superb.
I knew any sovereignty changes would make the 0.0 crowd whine, but this will provide a great deal more than expected.
Btw. I think it is going to be awesome, and Hilmar also notes that fleet battles, POS and whatever else is also going to have an effect on sovereignty.
what they said is that the ground combats will ALSO have an effect on 0.0 souvereignity. to which degree it will affect 0.0 souvereignity is not yet known i would say....

i say it again: there will be less or no cheating and hacking at all if its only on consoles. FPS + MMO = Cheatfest (normally)

Oh please. Go look at the numbers for console software sales and compare it to PC sales sometime, and you'll see why the entire industry's focused more on consoles than the PC. The money's over there, and if CCP can get a chunk of that while providing a clever way to tie it into the MMO-side then more power to them.
which in return means moar contentz and expansionz for eve

Why is it epic fail? Lets see, more money for eve. More players who play dust will most likely try eve online. More players for the main game. CCP will have something HUGE over WoW. Will be the only games company in the world to do this. Also you dont have to play it. Stick to your spacehships
I agree, the concept is really good if it works and is something completely new! thus it will propably attract many newcomers!

I think CCP is going in the right direction with this one... Multiple games feeding and interconnected with each other is what will define MMO's in the future... whether FPS or any other game. I do hope this will be available on the PC at some point.
But this just expands the world of EVE... and anything that does that is a win in my book.
as has been said before, this can become epic winsauce if done right

and paying them to do our work? if they cant get into space what are they supposed to be spending the money that we pay them on????
what you are describing here... is exactly how it would be supposed to be in a real war. there the ground troups would also come up with "lols ok then mr serious, can i haz pew pew nao?" while the more serious and intelligent people care for the commandship and the flying

if this is pulled off right, it will shake the whole mmo world into its fundaments. talk about "next generation mmorpgs"

If this game is what it promises, it offers something no other FPS game has: consequences. Seeing your clan not just ruling some stats, but actually taking territory, and being respected on message boards for accomplishments - that's something that has to appeal. I'm not an FPS gamer, but I have to think that consequences and a political map has a lot of appeal, just as that had enough appeal to me to get me into this here spaceship game.
agreed, i think this will appeal to alot of consoleers

every alliance can make up their own elite dust squad, consisting of their own players. A dust battle does NOT involve more than 24-40 people on ONE side, thus making it VERY POSSIBLE to NOT have the outcome of the battle being decided by 3rd parties. Big alliances have thousands of players and you cant tell mie that they could not form their own elite squads who are on duty for the ground combat
same will probably apply for reinforcements and supplies during the combat, which will most likely also being done by fleets
....
can i have your stuffz?

Definitely.
Though it's a shame they didn't make DUST for the PC, as part of EVE, so we can jump in at any time. It would make New Eden feel more "whole" instead of being separated by game. But I think the whole point was to expand into a different audience. After all, not all EVE Online players are FPS players.
(FPS + PC¦) * MMO * (Cheating + Hacking + Dominated by Twitch Gods) = FAIL

Can't see it being worthwhile otherwise.
could it be that your stance on balance is "slightly" different from the majority of gamers

Originally by: Tippia I read it as "Dust will be mandatory for space-holding alliances". Either way, my question remains: how so?
i think in order to have GOOD ground troops where you know what they are doing, its mandatory to know who they are and have them fight exlusively for YOUR alliance only.
But if they are from an external community or if they are people from the own alliance, doesnt matter so much i think.
But how the devs gonna avoid that certain dust players firstly fight for this alliance and the next battle they fight for another, is a secret i guess....

what we will definately not see is a pc version right from the start. but hopefully soon(tm) after.

But now they have to accomplish another massive project, due to all the uproar that is going on: The Dust515 PC Version

gamereactor.eu upped another dust interview as of 18.09.09:
Linkage
some keynotes:
A mixture of procudural technology and designed content will be used to create unique battlefields for each dust514-planet
Will dust514 only happen in 0.0, or will we also fight over low sec or planets like amarr prime? were still internally deabting how far we will push dust 514
what about the criticisms from players about Dust? At the fanfest, when we release extended info about dust, players will feel confidable that dust will be the right thing for eve
The style of each race will be given relevance on the planets as well.
The core focus for dust is to make a good online shooter, but we might add things that you can do as a single player; for example things for training purposes and stuff like that
